Job Details
Responsibilities
Lead comprehensive cost estimating for medium to large-scale construction projects—from conceptual design through final bid.
Review architectural and engineering documents (drawings, specs, RFIs, addenda) to establish detailed scopes of work.
Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate material, labor, and equipment cost models using tools such as RSMeans, Timberline, ProEst, PlanSwift, or HCSS HeavyBid.
Solicit, gather, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing; maintain a robust network of reliable trade partners.
Collaborate with internal project management, operations, and self-perform teams to ensure cohesive alignment on pricing, scope, and timeline.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering options for clients and leadership.
Track bid status, manage bid day activity, and support negotiations and bid clarifications.
Participate in preconstruction and estimating meetings; assist with the transition of awarded projects and provide budget support during execution.
Ensure documentation accuracy, audit-readiness, and consistency across estimating deliverables.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent experience may be accepted.
A minimum of 5 years of estimating experience with commercial or industrial construction—preferably within general contracting or heavy-civil environments.
Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software (e.g., RSMeans, ProEst, Timberline, HCSS HeavyBid, PlanSwift).
Strong quantitative, analytical, and cost-control skills; highly detail-oriented.
Exceptional ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and drawings.
Proven negotiation skills and vendor/subcontractor relationship management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present estimates to internal stakeholders and clients.
Certification as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar credential is a strong plus.
Field experience and exposure to self-perform trades (e.g., concrete, roofing, excavation) are highly valued.
