We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Trust and Estate Attorney to join our team of legal professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice and support to our high-net-worth clients on a broad range of trust and estate matters. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse client base, providing expert guidance on complex legal issues, and developing tailored solutions to meet their unique needs and objectives. The role demands a high degree of professionalism, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
1. Provide expert legal counsel to clients on all aspects of trust and estate law, including estate planning, trust administration, probate, and wealth planning.
2. Develop and implement sophisticated estate planning strategies, using tools such as Family Limited Partnerships, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Dynasty Trusts, Insurance Trusts, Annual Exclusion Trusts, Directed Trusts, Sales to Defective Grantor Trusts, Buy-Sell Agreements, Decanting, and Private Trust Companies.
3. Prepare and review a wide range of legal documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and estate planning documents.
4. Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, including GST, income taxation, gift and estate tax return reporting, and gift and estate tax return preparation.
5. Represent clients in matters before the IRS and state tax agencies, as required.
6. Collaborate closely with internal teams and external advisors to ensure a seamless and integrated approach to wealth planning.
7. Stay abreast of the latest developments in trust and estate law, and continually update knowledge and skills to ensure the highest level of service to our clients.
Qualifications
1. Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the state bar.
3. A minimum of 6+ years of experience in trust and estate law, with a strong track record in handling complex trust and estate matters. Must have Income Tax, International, and Domestic experience.
4. In-depth knowledge of trust and estate law, tax law, and related legal principles.
5. Proven experience in estate planning and trust administration for high-net-worth individuals.
6. Familiarity with a broad range of estate planning tools and strategies, including Family Limited Partnerships, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Dynasty Trusts, Insurance Trusts, Annual Exclusion Trusts, Directed Trusts, Sales to Defective Grantor Trusts, Buy-Sell Agreements, Decanting, and Private Trust Companies.
7. Excellent legal research, analytical, and drafting skills.
8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
9. High level of professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
10. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
11. Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
