This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence others outside of the reporting chain, as well as in-depth knowledge of accounting standards and regulations to review and problem solve issues in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This position plays a lead role in developing and implementing Manitowoc accounting policies, as well as providing significant inputs into Manitowoc’s external financial reporting process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
External Reporting and Technical Accounting
  • Provide significant input for the quarterly and annual SEC reporting processes, including preparation and review of Form 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K, and 11-K, footnote disclosures and MD&A. This includes footnote preparation, review and filing completeness. Provide support for Proxy preparation and review.
  • Support Senior Manager, External Reporting by validating cross-functional team data and inputs required for SEC filings, namely becoming a liaison with FP&A, Legal and HR, as well as global finance teams. Perform accounting research to support SEC disclosures.
  • Provide information and support to internal and external auditors to facilitate Manitowoc’s overall successful and efficient completion of quarterly reviews and annual audit
  • Provide key support and training on and ensure compliance of companywide policies and procedures involving existing and proposed U.S. GAAP accounting and interpretation/updating of financial policies; this includes support for global entities
  • Research and prepare company whitepapers on various technical accounting matters for both internal and external documentation/position purposes, to include significant events, including debt refinancings, acquisitions, divestitures, and others; provide input into solving global accounting issues driving consistency in accounting treatment across entities
  • Assist with review, interpretation, evaluation, and coordination of adopting new U.S. GAAP accounting and SEC reporting regulations. Provide key input on pending accounting pronouncements and assist in implementation efforts across business units.
  • Support corporate Controller, CFO, VPs Finance, and other departments on U.S. GAAP accounting matters for actual and forecasted transactions; ensure proper accounting treatment for all transactions
  • Implement/Update and maintain documentation of relevant SOX controls as financial reporting requirements and/or the company changes. Support companywide entities with identification, documentation, and remediation of control deficiencies.

Financial Accounting
  • Provide accounting support and prepare journal entries and reconciliations for more complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition (including percentage of completion accounting), stock-based compensation, statement of cash flows, EPS/DEPS, derivatives, pension, and post-retirement benefits, AOCI and other topics
  • Partner with HR on stock-based awards, including tracking of available share pool units under the company’s Omnibus Incentive Plan
  • Prepare corporate roll-forwards and assist with uploading results to consolidation system (EPM)
  • Review global bad debt reserves on an annual basis
  • Analyze workers’ compensation, product liability, and IBNR reserves, as required
  • Provide business support and data entry/reconciliation review of leases entered into the company’s lease accounting software (LeaseQuery)
  • Review cycle counting/statistical inventory counting procedures and results, summarizing results, and recommending improvements to overall business unit and management personnel
  • Analyze, consolidate, and summarize monthly certifications and report findings to management
  • Provide support and review of corporate balance sheet and income statement fluctuations
  • Review and provide narrative on corporate Budget, Forecast and Actual cost center reviews
  • Identify Finance transformation roadmap initiatives and assist with driving efficiencies
  • Assist Sr. Manager, External Reporting with annual Goodwill analysis, as well as intangible and tangible asset impairment review

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with four (4) years’ accounting experience
  • Big 4 public accounting experience required and CPA desired
  • Strong understanding of SEC disclosures and U.S. GAAP pronouncements; internal controls review/documentation experience required
  • Experience with SAP and Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) or successor EPM product strongly desired
  • Good oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to effectively summarize information into clear and concise updates for management level review
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and contributor to positive team dynamic
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail with the ability to work on multiple, concurrent projects
  • Confidence and ability to interact effectively with various levels of management and external stakeholders
  • Ability to identify root causes and initiate corrective actions in an efficient manner
  • Normal office environment; limited travel may be required
