Job Details
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to lead safety efforts on complex construction projects, particularly those governed by federal standards such as USACE. The SSHO will be responsible for implementing and managing comprehensive safety programs, ensuring all field operations remain compliant with contractual and regulatory safety requirements, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Safety Oversight: Serve as the on-site authority for all matters related to health and safety. Implement and enforce safety plans in accordance with EM 385-1-1 and other applicable federal guidelines.
Daily Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough, routine inspections of job sites to proactively identify risks and ensure safety protocols are being followed by all personnel and subcontractors.
Training and Briefings: Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training sessions to keep safety awareness top of mind for all team members.
Accident Prevention: Act as a first responder to incidents and near-misses, leading investigations, reporting findings, and developing action plans to prevent recurrence.
Compliance & Documentation: Maintain meticulous records, including daily safety reports, site logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation. Ensure ongoing compliance with contractual safety obligations.
Coordination with Stakeholders: Collaborate with project managers, field supervisors, and client safety representatives to address safety challenges and align safety practices with operational goals.
Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date on safety trends and regulatory updates. Recommend enhancements to the project’s safety procedures and support the integration of new practices.
