Qualifications
Ideal Candidate
This role is best suited for a highly technical tax professional who enjoys being the subject matter expert within a firm. Rather than focusing heavily on business development, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor to partners, managers, and staff by providing guidance on complex tax issues, interpreting tax law changes, and helping the firm navigate sophisticated tax matters with confidence.
- Serve as the firm's primary technical tax resource for partners, managers, and staff
- Research and analyze complex federal, state, and local tax issues
- Provide guidance on intricate tax matters involving pass-through entities, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individual taxation
- Stay current on tax legislation, regulatory developments, and emerging tax planning opportunities
- Review complex tax returns and provide technical oversight as needed
- Assist with tax planning strategies for business owners and closely held companies
- Support the resolution of challenging client tax matters and IRS issues
- Mentor and train tax professionals across the firm
- Collaborate with firm leadership on technical tax policies, procedures, and best practices
- Participate in client consultations involving sophisticated tax matters and transactions
Qualifications
- CPA license required
- J.D. and/or LL.M. in Taxation strongly preferred
- 15+ years of public accounting tax experience
- Extensive technical tax expertise with federal and state tax matters
- Strong background working with privately held businesses and small-to-mid-sized companies
- Experience with complex business returns, multi-entity structures, and advanced tax planning strategies
- Knowledge of international tax matters is a plus
- Exceptional tax research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Proven experience reviewing complex tax engagements and advising internal teams
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Ability to work from or commute to Woodbury, NY
