Important: Backend Systems & Integration Focus

This is a technically focused Product Owner role with substantial ownership of backend functionality, system integrations, and operational data flows. You’ll own requirements and delivery for the systems connecting Shopify, CRM, analytics, marketing automation, and other business platforms. Success requires hands-on technical product ownership—from defining how systems should interact to troubleshooting issues and validating end-to-end functionality with engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the technical product roadmap across Shopify, web portals, backend capabilities, and connected business and MarTech platforms.
  • Translate business requests into development-ready technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, and prioritized engineering work.
  • Define integration requirements, including APIs, data mappings, synchronization rules, system dependencies, and error handling.
  • Document system workflows and data flows connecting commerce, CRM, marketing automation, analytics, and third-party platforms.
  • Manage the engineering backlog, including refinement, sequencing, sprint readiness, dependencies, and delivery priorities.
  • Work directly with developers and DevOps to evaluate implementation options, resolve technical questions, and guide initiatives through testing and release.
  • Define requirements for complex Shopify functionality, app integrations, checkout logic, and practitioner or patient workflows, including their backend and downstream system impacts.
  • Identify integration risks, data integrity concerns, technical constraints, and operational impacts before development begins.
  • Remain hands-on with platform configuration, initial troubleshooting, issue reproduction, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate QA, user acceptance testing, and regression testing. Validate integration behavior, data accuracy, error handling, and end-to-end workflows against acceptance criteria.
  • Partner with engineering and DevOps on CI/CD workflows, deployment readiness, release validation, and rollback planning.
  • Drive delivery in a lean environment, proactively resolving requirements gaps and coordinating execution across business and technical teams.
  • Use business outcomes, customer feedback, system reliability, and technical performance to inform roadmap decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of relevant experience, with demonstrated ownership of technical digital products, backend platform capabilities, or complex system integrations.
  • Strong Shopify or Shopify Plus experience involving backend functionality, app integrations, and connected operational workflows.
  • Practical understanding of APIs, data mapping, synchronization, system dependencies, and integration error handling.
  • Proven ability to independently translate business needs into technical requirements, actionable user stories, and testable acceptance criteria.
  • A track record of owning technical roadmaps and engineering backlogs through implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Ability to discuss technical tradeoffs with engineers and understand how implementation decisions affect data accuracy, functionality, reliability, and customer experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of Agile delivery, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and release management.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD workflows, development environments, testing practices, deployment processes, and rollback procedures.
  • Experience investigating defects, reproducing integration issues, and validating functionality across connected systems.
  • Ability to balance product strategy with detailed, hands-on execution in a lean team.
  • Clear communication and documentation skills, including explaining technical constraints and delivery decisions to nontechnical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience integrating Shopify with CRM, marketing automation, analytics, or other business platforms.
  • Familiarity with Shopify APIs, webhooks, and app integrations.
  • Experience with Klaviyo, GA4, Google Tag Manager, customer data platforms, and attribution or tracking implementations.
  • Experience supporting practitioner portals, healthcare commerce, or connected B2B and B2C purchasing workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Shopify Liquid and theme structure to support troubleshooting and collaboration with developers.
  • Practical use of AI-assisted tools for requirements development, documentation, development coordination, or testing.

What Will Stand Out

Candidates who can walk through a backend or integration initiative they personally owned: the business problem, systems involved, how data moved between them, requirements and acceptance criteria they developed, technical tradeoffs they helped resolve, and how they validated the release. Strong candidates will clearly distinguish their own responsibilities from the engineering team’s work and explain how they handled failures, exceptions, or downstream impacts.
Direct ownership of backend functionality, integrations, and technical delivery will carry the most weight.
