Job Details

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Tax & Financial Operations and Chief Risk Officer, this tax leadership position will be responsible for the enterprise-wide leadership and drive Sunnova global tax strategy including tax compliance, tax provision and tax planning. Ideal candidates will have exceptional financial and business acumen, a tax leader with experience in renewable energy and will bring commercial judgment, creativity, and proven leadership to a growing tax team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead tax strategy, assessing the tax impact of strategic initiatives, and driving tax decision-making that improves shareholder value
  • Manage and develop tax leadership members globally, encouraging collaborative team atmosphere and with cross functional teams in Finance
  • Provide active support to tax equity structures, advising leadership in strategic decision making with products and jurisdictions new entrants, mergers and acquisitions restructuring and providing tax guidance to ensure business budget and planning accounts for tax assumptions and considerations
  • Oversee all aspects of quarterly and annual financial reporting for income tax and manage worldwide GGAP tax provision, tax reserves (ASC 740 and ASC 450)
  • Provide strategic and execution guidance on transfer pricing and its policies and related documents as required in all jurisdictions where operates
  • Lead automation and digital transformation for the Tax department
  • Serve as a leader in building, maintaining, and leveraging close working relationships with internal partners, including executive management, financial reporting, accounting, treasury, legal, HR and business operations
  • Implement and execute tax policies covering all tax matters including employment tax, global tax audits and tax assumptions as required to be incorporated in project assumptions
  • Lead legal entity rationalization, tax equity buy-out and application of consolidated return regulations
  • Manage all external tax advisors and vendors relationships
  • Own related process narratives and internal controls ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404
  • Represent the Tax function on internal committees supporting new products and jurisdictions launch
  • Serve on external tax committees supporting the renewable industry
  • Implement and sustain “best practices” for internal controls for tax provisions

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Tax related discipline, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics or a related field
  • CPA or JD
  • 15+ years’ experience with tax planning, research, and compliance
  • 6 years of highly specialized subject matter experience
  • 5+ years’ managing multiple, direct reports
  • 4+ years of public accounting experience
  • Experience with M&A due diligence and integration, structuring transactions, including financing transactions and tax equity is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in accounting or taxation, LLM or comparable advanced degree
  • Previous experience in energy, and, residential solar
  • Deep knowledge of ASC 740 is highly desirable
  • Prior tax controversy experience
  • Strong experience in Subchapter K of the Internal Revenue Code and hypothetical liquidation at book value (“HLBV”)
