Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of Georgia workers’ compensation defense matters on behalf of employers and insurance carriers.
Evaluate claims, investigate facts, analyze medical records, and develop defense strategies aligned with client objectives.
Provide clear, timely counsel regarding liability, exposure, litigation strategy, settlement opportunities, and case developments.
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, settlement documents, and other case-related materials.
Take and defend depositions of claimants, witnesses, medical providers, and other relevant parties.
Represent clients in mediations, hearings, and trials before the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation, as applicable.
Collaborate with claims professionals, employer representatives, experts, and opposing counsel to move cases toward efficient resolution.
Conduct legal research and stay current on Georgia workers’ compensation law, procedural requirements, and relevant decisions.
Maintain accurate case records, meet deadlines, and comply with ethical obligations and client reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Georgia Bar.
5+ years of relevant attorney experience, with a strong background in workers’ compensation defense, insurance defense, civil litigation, or equivalent practice.
Experience representing employers and insurance carriers in contested claims and litigation.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage cases from intake and investigation through settlement, hearing, or trial.
Experience conducting depositions, participating in mediation, and preparing matters for contested proceedings.
Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to assess risk, exercise sound judgment, and translate complex legal issues into practical client guidance.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
A collaborative approach, professional integrity, and dedication to responsive client service.
