Key Responsibilities
Qualifications
- Handle a high-volume caseload of up to 50 matters per month, including defense of claims, case strategy, and resolution management
- Provide practical legal advice and risk assessments to business leaders, HR, and claims professionals on workers’ compensation issues
- Oversee outside counsel and coordinate litigation strategy to ensure consistent and cost-effective results
- Draft and review settlement agreements, pleadings, and related documents
- Represent the company at hearings, depositions, and mediations as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align legal strategies with business objectives
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of workers’ compensation statutes, regulations, and case law
Qualifications
- JD and active bar license in good standing in Illinois
- Minimum 8 years of experience in workers’ compensation law, ideally with both litigation and advisory exposure
- Must have Illinois-based workers' compensation defense experience
- Proven ability to manage a heavy caseload with efficiency and accuracy
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication skills and the ability to present clearly to senior leadership
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure and balance legal risks with business goals
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams
