The successful applicant will evaluate and determine the eligibility of loan applications. The Mortgage Underwriter's responsibilities include analyzing and verifying loan applications, evaluating risks, and making loan eligibility decisions. In addition, the Mortgage Underwriter should be able to exercise sound judgment based on detailed analysis and ensure that all documentation is in compliance with the relevant regulations.

Job Details

Senior Mortgage Underwriter Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Evaluate residential and commercial mortgage loans risk based on sound underwriting decisions
  • Verify application information against loan criteria guidelines and standards
  • Clarify risk by requesting additional information
  • Identify and record application deficiencies required for rejecting mortgage loan
  • Provide rejected application back to loan officer
  • Respond to questions, queries and request with suitable information
  • Upgrade information on processing and underwriting systems to verify, add, delete or waive conditions
  • Recommend areas of improvement to staff and loan officers
  • Ensure compliance with underwriter market standards
  • Assist in training new underwriters and loan origination staff members
Senior Mortgage Underwriter Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field
  • 5+ years' mortgage loan underwriting experience
  • Experience with FHA, VA, conventional, Freddie, Fannie
  • Expert knowledge of underwriting terminology and process
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of the real estate industry and current trends
